ReFlux
DJ Reflux began raving in early 1992, after hearing an Ellis Dee mix tape. During this time his favourite DJ’s were Top Buzz, DJ Rap, Easygroove, and of course Ellis Dee. Reflux continued buying mix tapes throughout 1993 / 1994, heavily influenced by the Jungle Tekno sounds of Ratty, LTJ Bukem, Fabio and Grooverider. This is also a sound that he is partial to when in the studio. Having a broad range of musical interests, Reflux began buying mainly techno records throughout 1994 and 1995, and listening to DJ’s such as Dave Angel, Clarkee and M-zone.
It was in 1996 that he started raving regularly, but during this period was more likely to be found in the drum and bass arena than the hardcore arena!! Reflux continued to listen to drum and bass until 2002, but did so in a half-hearted fashion. It was around this time that he discovered KFA Records, and became fully involved in the breakbeat hardcore sound once more. However, he is equally interested in newer, fresher forms of drum and bass, especially that which has been coined ‘Trancestep’, not to mention nu-skool breaks. It is therefore no surprise that his sets are often eclectic!! What is consistent, however, is the prominence of breakbeats and heavy bass lines in the music that he plays and makes. |
