First introduction into the dance music scene was around 94 listening to
the pirate radio stations (Dance FM and Pitch FM) that were broadcasting at
that time in and around the Sheffield area. Got heavily into the happy
sound and used to spend many an hour down the local record store listening
to the happy breakbeat and bouncy techno being released on labels such as
Kniteforce, Universal and Hectic.
Whilst not really being a big fan of the early ragga style jungle i did started listening to the atmospheric, intelligent sound that was being championed by Bukem and his crew through his label good looking. This love of early Drum and Bass then progressed as the sound got harder, and more techno influenced through the late nineties. I began Djing after purchasing my first set of belt drives in 95 (which i still have), and upgraded to my beloved pair of 1210's a few years later. Initially i span Happy Hardcore (to whoever would listen) then later Drum and Bass although along the way i also dabbled briefly with Trance and Hard House. Current main influences are Dillinja, Mampi Swift, Grooverider and Roni Size and whilst my first love is the hard rolling style i am also happy bouncing around to the latin influenced, vocal sound that is prevalent in the scene at the moment. |
