MC Flexa

I got my first introduction to hardcore / jungle / d'n'b back in 1994. Having never heard any music like it I was instantly hooked!!

Being young at the time I couldn't go to any of the raves, so I started buying tape packs, collecting flyers, and recording tapes from various pirate radio stations. After listening and following the music / scene for about a year I had an understanding of dj'ing and mc'ing and I wanted to get involved

I used to re sight all the mc's lyrics, and I started to understand how dj's mixed up the records. A friend of mine (Big up Dj Virtue) showed me how to mix and after that I had my mind set on becoming involved in the scene.

So in 1995 I got myself some turntables, mixer, amp+speakers, and I started buying records. (Big up the Bluebird Records Kru)

I started practising both dj'ing and mc'ing. People were giving me a lot of props for my mc'ing, so I started to concentrate more on becoming an mc.

In 1996 I took up the name Mc Flexa (Flexa–riginal) and began to write lyrics and create my own style of mc'ing. I began to link up with various dj's around my area (Big up all Bromley Kru) and record demos and play at local parties.

A few years went past and I was still following the music and developing my style, and then in 1998, I was introduced to a local d'n'b Dj, DJ Prospect. (the other half of Performers 4 the future, PTF Kru)

We recorded a demo tape, and it was obvious we worked well together, so we started to link up on a regular basis to practise our skills and develop a different style of dj/mc combination.

Opportunities came our way to play at some local parties and clubs, and when we did we were getting props for the way we worked together.

Into 2000 and it was time that we broadened our horizons and take what we were doing to the next level, which was getting a regular slot on a d'n'b radio station.

I sent out a few demos to various radio stations around London and we got a good response from one of London's leading old skool / jungle / d'n'b stations, Origin 95.2fm (Big up Mista T, EZM, and al the family)

I made my debut on the airwaves on Origin fm, with Dj Prospect, in Oct 2000, and since then I've been playing every week.

Also in 2000 I got to mc in a few raves and clubs around London, with some of the scenes top dj's, which has helped develop my skills.

In 2001 I made my debut on the internet with Prospect on a station called breakpirates.com (Big Dj Drift and all the Kru) I also got my profile up on various sites to boost what I'm doing.

Into 2002 and I started to get a lot of recognition from a lot of people within the scene. This had lead to all sorts of opportunities coming my way, and me securing some residencies in and out of London, which has helped develop my skills and add in a professional element to my mc'ing.

I describe my style as an unpredictable, fast, constant, clear, original, flow of lyrics and raps. I'm not the type to drown the music but to work with the dj to enhance and create a vibe

My aim now in 2003 is to continue to progress in the scene, become successful, and to develop my style (there's always room for improvement).

Reaching out to all the people who have been supporting me and boosting me throughout the years, without that I wouldn't be where I'm at now, Nuff respect!!!
